Recipient's Name:  Barbara Warren

School:  Grand View Public School

Grades: one-two split

Number of Years Teaching: 16

  • Barbara Warren has been teaching for 16 years.  She spends her days with her grade one-two split at Glenview Public School.

Barb loves teaching.  She took a 17 year break from teaching to raise her own children and then tried another profession.  She quickly realized that her heart belongs to teaching.  She fully believes that anybody can do and become anything.  There are no failures in her class.  She loves to have lots of fun with her students.  She is always in costume.  She gets her students involved as a team so they build relationships and learn respect.  She loves the energy of this age group and sees them as ready to grow.  They are sponges who love learning.  Every day is new and they blow her away with what they say and know.

Barb takes lots of pictures of her students and puts them around the classroom.  She believes that everyone loves to see themselves on display.  Each year she makes a photo album which past students still come to go through the albums and see how they have grown and learned.

Shelley, a parent of one of Barb's students wrote this about Barb:

This past year while in Mrs. Warren's grade two class my shy, introverted daughter has truly blossomed.  She comes home everyday filled with laughter and joy, confidence and enthusiasm.  She wishes every day was a school day.  As a volunteer in Mrs. Warren's classroom I have witnessed all her students actively engaged in the subjects at hand led by a teacher who treats everyone of her little charges with integrity and respect.  Every student is made to feel like a star, a winner, valuable and full of potential.

My biggest joy is seeing how my daughter who used to lose her voice because of shyness and lack of confidence is giving presentations that involve speaking and acting in front of audiences.  Mrs. Warren played a key role in my daughter's new found confidence by showing she cares and is interested, by engaging and inspiring and never tiring.  Mrs. Warren has made a very positive impact on my daughter and our family.  I have no doubt that when my daughter looks back on her school days she will remember her favourite teacher, Mrs. Warren, with great fondness and thankfulness.
