Recipient's Name: Kelly Fowler
School: Ryerson Public
Grade: 1-2 split
Number of Years Teaching: 6
Kelly loves teaching primary grades. She loves the students' growth, independence and their ability to learn. They have many "light bulb" moments and Kelly tries to celebrate as many of those moments as she can. Kelly has a deep love of children. She loves their inquisitiveness, their wanting to learn more and their sense of FUN! She sees her role as making her students feel capable and competent. She has lots of daily check-ins with them and conversations so they have a chance to tell her about themselves.
A good day for Kelly is when everybody is having a good time, working hard and getting along. It is a great feeling for Kelly to know that her students leave her room feeling good about themselves and their abilities.
Kelly's student Alycia and her mom Bonnie wrote these inspiring words about her:
Mrs. Fowler is a caring, committed educator. One needn't even step in the school to see the love and respect she has for her students as she greets each one personally and cheerfully every single morning.
The children learn so much from her as they thrive in her classroom environment. Outstanding academics cannot exist without a strong sense of community and Mrs. Fowler artfully develops a sense of co-operation and respect in her classroom. She models and reinforces respect, acceptance, caring, co-operation, being organized, on-task and neighbourly. She communicates beautifully with parents and makes "happy phone calls" home. I have come across very few educators with the kind of "magic" that Mrs. Fowler has.
Several of Kelly's students wrote sentences about her.
One you girl wrote: "She helps me with math and smiles at me."
Another said, "When I get my name on the board she talks through it and solves it with me.
Our favourite was, "Mrs. Fowler eats lunch with me when I am having a sad day."
