Tracey has been teaching for 14 years. This year she spends her days with the grade ones at St. Elizabeth Catholic School.
Tracey’s immediate answer to the question “what is your inspiration for teaching?” was “my mom!” She is an amazing person and was an excellent teacher who could reach the unreachable.”
For Tracey, kids come first. She teaches like she wants
her own children to be taught. She recognizes that each child is a unique gift
from God that come to her with strengths and weaknesses and she strives to get
the best out of each child.
Tracey’s students make her laugh. She celebrates the fact that each day she will
smile at something her students do. In grade one, there is tons of growth so
many “lights” are coming on in her students. Their energy and openness make her
love her job.
Madison’s mom wrote this of Madison’s grade one year with Tracey:
By the second day of school, Tracey Petro knew all the children’s names. She greets them every morning, and notices lost teeth, haircuts etc. She also has the ability to know how to push each of her students so that they can reach their full potential.
Tracey understands that there are many important aspects to a child’s education. During lunchtime you will find her running kick ball, a craft club or a soccer club. In her classroom they have worms, fish and the highlight of the year, chicks. The excitement on the children’s faces as the chicks hatch is matched by the excitement on Tracey’s face.
This year our daughter was upset when my husband and I were on a vacation. Tracey noticed this and during recess put a blanket on the floor and had a picnic with Madi. Madi says, “Mrs. Petro helps me be better.”
