School: Hillcrest Public School

Grade: 2

Inspiration/Motivation for being a Teacher of Excellence:

Steve is fortunate to have had wonderful teachers in his school career that positively influenced his life, inspired him and helped him along the way.  In his teaching he aspires to be like the teachers that made such a difference in his life.  Steve loves to see the growth in the children in his grade 2 class.  At this young age milestones come more frequently giving cause for celebration and allowing Steve to see the results of his teaching in the students’ lives.  He loves the enthusiasm of students in the younger grades. This enthusiasm was very evident as the students clapped and cheered upon hearing that “their” Mr. Anderson was winning an award for being an excellent teacher.

Steve’s nomination came from a family whose child was very fortunate to have Steve as his teacher.  The family writes:

“Steve Anderson is an amazing teacher.  Our son suffers from a learning disability, dyslexia and ADHD.  Prior to having Steve as a teacher our son struggled through each year…Steve didn’t look at our child as a problem child.  He made every effort to keep him in class with his peers.  He would adjust the curriculum so that our son felt just like the other kids.  Social situations were difficult however Steve always took the time to teach our son how to better handle them.  In our opinion Steve Anderson teaches from the heart.  He always treated our son with respect even when he didn’t receive it in return.  By the end of the year our son had much more self esteem due to Steve’s tremendous efforts.”
