Overview
Barrday is an independent company that designs and produces specialty industrial textiles. Our business is weaving synthetic fibres into unique fabrics that solve technical challenges for customers. We apply a variety of finishes, textures and coatings to woven products to impart stability, toughness and moisture resistance. These advanced materials are used in a wide variety of applications. They protect people and enhance performance when converted into body armour, fire suits and sporting equipment. They withstand harsh and demanding industrial environments when made into filter media. They provide performance features to a wide spectrum of industrial applications, from flexible fuel tanks to high performance sailcloth. The Company is located in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada and in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA and is proud to serve customers all over the world.
Quality
Quality begins by attentively listening to customer requirements. We strive to make any contact with Barrday into an experience of service, innovation and product quality. All employees are trained in the ISO Quality System. We set and maintain the highest standards for production consistency, while incorporating flexibility and innovation into each process. We seek innovative ways to improve our work habits and adopt best practices from wherever we find them.
Sales and Marketing
We sell our products directly to end-users through Barrday's in-house technical sales force and through independent technical agents. All are responsible for identifying and understanding customer requirements. Sales and Marketing are supported by our Research and Development staff. R&D invent or customize products and processes to solve customer needs and to make our manufacturing efficient and environmentally friendly. With our in-house laboratory and external university and industrial collaborations, we strive to bring the most creative technical ideas to every product challenge.
Manufacturing
As a result of consistent investment in people and physical assets, our manufacturing sites are state-of-the-art, flexible, efficient and productive. The array of weaving and finishing equipment (including twisting, warping, weaving, laminating, impregnation and coating) provides a wide variety of process capabilities. We are motivated to meet demanding requirements from our customers for quality, consistency and rapid response. Employee training is a way of life at Barrday. Each person is empowered by our quality system and our Mission to take any action required to meet customer requirements.
Research & Development
Barrday has an outstanding group of scientists working on refining today's products and inventing of new and unique textiles and composites. The emphasis of this team is on the customer. R&D people are in the field, in the plant and in the lab. They are speaking with our supply partners and joint industry collaborators. New concepts may have been born in design software or the chemical lab, but they come to life on production machinery. Samples and concepts are refined through give-and-take with the end users and always with customer technical and economic considerations in mind.
Barrday has in-house expertise in many client technologies. Our own textile and chemical knowledge is supported by test facilities (an example is our in-house ballistic testing range) and partnerships in formal academic studies. The efforts of the R&D Group have resulted in unique solutions to customer technical challenges and also to the growth of our manufacturing expertise. The result has been consistent high-level quality, cost containment, novel conversion techniques and product innovation. Research and Development is key to customer satisfaction and safe, environmentally sound processes and products. And it's exciting to do!
Product Categories
The company's five major sales categories are as follows:
Protective
Products include fabrics for bullet and fragment resistant vests, bomb blankets, helmet plates and shields, firefighting gear and chainsaw chaps. New fibre chemistry and blends, coatings, and weave patterns are studied to meet the changing needs of this market for greater levels of protection.
Recreation
A wide variety of robust fabrics find uses in sport footwear, tent and backpack materials, composites for canoes and on and off-ice skates. Many fabrics are laminated and coated for abrasion resistance and strength. Design aesthetics and physical performance are carefully considered for each design.
Filtration
Filter fabrics are designed for use in a variety of harsh environments and to create the desired airflow, pressure drop and chemical and soiling resistance required for each application. Some examples are filters, sectors and covers for pulp and paper.
Industrial
A wide variety of fibres and fabric designs find their way into military load carriers, fuel cells, dairy herd protective blankets and other demanding applications.
Composite
Polymer yarns, quartz and carbon fibres are chosen to partner with carefully selected resin systems to form "intelligent materials" or composites. These new products are used in armour, structural components for transportation vehicles, recreation (e.g. boats) and infrastructure reinforcement.
